Approvals came at 35th meeting of Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase this year
The government on Wednesday approved separate proposals for procuring some 140,000 tons of urea and MOfertilizer to meet their growing demand in Bangladesh.
The approvals came at the 35th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) this year, held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Officials said following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure some 50,000 tons of MOP fertilizer under a state-level agreement with Canadian Commercial Corporation under the eighth lot, with a cost of around Tk414.13 crore.
Besides, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries will procure a total of 90,000 tons of urea fertilizer from different sources.
The BCIC will procure 30,000 tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer under the sixth lot from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE, for around Tk188.93 crore, another 30,000 tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer under the ninth lot from KAFCO, Bangladesh, for around Tk185.13 crore, and another 30,000 tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer under the 11th lot from Muntajat, Qatar for around Tk188.93 crore.
Besides, following a proposal from the Internal Resources Division (IRD), the National Board of Revenue (NBR) will procure six full-fledged container scanner systems from Nuctech Company Ltd for customs houses and offices, spending around Tk327.01 crore.
