Aug 15, Colombo: The Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry Rohana Pushpakumara to conduct a full audit regarding the distribution of urea fertilizer to the farmers in the Yala season.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said any deficiencies, shortcomings or irregularities that may have occurred in the distribution of urea fertilizer to the farmers in the Yala Season should be rectified before the Maha season and the audit will help the process.
Also, if there were any irregularities in the distribution of the fertilizer, they intend to take legal action if any officials or responsible persons were involved in malpractices during the fertilizer distribution, the Minister has said. The Minister has also informed to start this full audit process immediately after completion of fertilizer distribution.
The Ministry of Agriculture says that the distribution of urea fertilizer for the Yala season has been completed by 98 percent and the rest will be distributed this week.
